today we got a new bed for mia. well it is a used bed we found at DI. it is a toddler bed so we brought it in the living room to let her feel it out. we guess she really liked it when she started jumping on it right away.

I was looking through some shots from Argentina and found one of our Christmas Tree. The ornaments are lifesavers cream candies that Mom had sent me in a package. I remember that cactus falling when we cut it down with a machete, and for some stupid reason I tried catching it, and a 2" needle went right into my hand... I don't know that I have had pain like that since. :)

Pelicans are fun. The very top pic is hilarious, because there would be a huge flock of them together, and they swam, and dunked their heads underwater at the exact same time. Really, it was a little freaky.

There was a lake full of carp for the eagles to eat. It was funny to watch how they would fight over a fish that one caught, even though the ranger told us that they had killed the carp so the eagles would eat them, so they didn't have to "hunt" them in the first place. If you look close on the bottom pic, you can see the fish falling that they were fighting for.

This was my first attempt at HDR. Basically I took three shots at different exposures, then merged all three together into one picture. By doing this, I am able to use the darker exposure for the sky, the middle exposure for the house and car, and then the lightest exposure for the ground, and so all three can be seen at about the same lighting. That may not be a great explanation, but its a fun little trick.

I don't think I ever posted any pics of the actual game that we went to, just the fireworks. This was a fun game. Real lost, and there was a fight which ended with a red card being pulled, but all in all it was a fun game. It was a guys' night out, so how could it not be fun?

Today I decided to post this picture for two reasons. First, I am already in bed, and all my other pictures are saved on my desktop, so this is what I have to work with on the laptop. Second, this shot reminds me of a good time, taking pictures in Pablo's front yard with our newly bought lenses. We were both amazed at the power out of such a cheap lens (we found a steal online for a knock off telephoto lens). If I remember correctly, this was shot at about 1200mm. The moon is quite fascinating. Since I will never be smrt enough to have a reason to go there, this is the next best thing.

I know all everyone really wants to see is this little cutie, so she has to be first. She just loves keeping her little paw on the side of her face, as if to hold her head up. She just loved cuddling up with Nana while she was visiting. She is gonna miss her til we can get down to visit in a few more weeks.

Next is one of my birthday. I am starting this game on my birthday, so that it will be easier for me to remember when it ends. And yes, I am aware that I had a pink cake for my birthday. Mary Lou did a fabulous job, as I wanted a chocolate cake with strawberry frosting. Doesn't it look great? I need to get her to open a restaurant.

I had to add these last two, as she was obviously having such a good time with Tio Tim. They were just looking at each other, and she kept getting the biggest grin on her face. Tim seemed to be beaming a bit too. I'm glad they like each other, she needs to start on the right track with her future father in law.

Boy oh Boy.... It's a Girly Girl!

I hit two milestones this last week. The first is that I finally surrendered to winter, and gave some snowy activity a try. My grudge with snow goes back many, many years, but thanks to a patient brother in law, and friendly sister that invited me along, I just couldn't say no and at least give it a try. We went up to Alta, because they allow free skiing after 3:00 on Saturdays (Shh! Don't tell anyone! We don't want it to get too crowded :P). It turns out that skiing really is a blast! It was fun hanging out on the lift and flying down the hill together. I couldn't feel my toes after about half an hour, but it didn't matter. Who needs toes anyway?
This was my first time on downhill skis, the only time being on any skis was cross country in scouts (which, by the way, is where my hatred for winter probably began... trudging through the snow in the middle of the night, and being forced to build snow caves to sleep in....) so I really had no idea what I was doing. I started off on the wrong foot, or rather my left foot... As soon as the three of us got onto the lift, my right ski fell off!! I watched it slide down the hill without me, as we all got a good laugh and tried to think of creative ways for me to get down the hill without it! Luckily they have guys at the top with radios, so they had someone at the bottom bring it up on the lift.. He got up there and said, "When they asked me to bring this up, I asked him what the guy looks like that lost his ski.. and they replied... He will be the guy standing around with only one ski!" They were very nice about it, and I was glad it wasn't lost forever. First, because it would be hard to slide down on one ski, and second, because they were rentals! =)
All in all, it was a great trip, and I have to give Paul all the credit for some awesome shots! I couldn't believe how he could ski so well, going down the harder slopes, all while carrying his camera. And he very unselfishly would ride fast ahead, and turn around and wait for Angela and I to catch up, popping shots as quick as he could go until we passed him, then it was off to the races again for him! It was a great time, and I recommend it to all you hibernating summer people. Believe you me... I was the king of the bear cave, not willing to step a foot out in that cold, cold, white stuff, but now that I have... I would say it was totally worth it! Thanks for the culture lesson you two! You both were also AWESOME teachers, even though Paul is a little more on the up and up with the technical terms, like "keep skis perpendicular to the slope when stopped," instead of "keep the long part facing the hill" or however you say that in girl language. Im sorry Angela, I couldnt help myself! =)

Anywho, my next milestone is that I Graduated!! Yay! I know, I know, its not fully over yet, and I have a ways to go, but it was a huge step for me, as I haven't been able to find a way out of that blasted school for years. It turned out all I really needed, after trying to go through about 6 jobs, move around about 6 wards, was to finally find my true love, get her to cheer me on, and POOF! I finished! It feels good to have that done. In case you don't know, I just finished my Associates at the Community College, and am now attending the University of Utah, majoring in Psychology. This is my first semester, and I have the dreaded Stats class (which, by the way, is not all that bad, and actually fun if you have the right teacher!), and am loving every minute of being in a university. I am finally done with all of the General Ed courses that I would prefer a sharp stick to the eye repeatedly over taking one more of them! All is well in our household, and there may be a suprise on here tomorrow, so stay posted!

The day arrived for us to declaw the cats. The had a fabulous time playing in their carrier, with their stuffed fishy, thinking we were just going for a nice ride around town. After leaving them at the vet all day long, we finally picked them back up at 4:30. They just stayed sleeping in their carrier all the way home. After we opened up the carrier, they tried to hop out, and then realized that they could not feel their front paws, because there are bandages on them (as seen in the pictures). This really freaked them out, and Willee started hopping around the house like a drunk deer, ramming into walls and getting lost. I finally caught up with him under the bed and picked him up. After they finally calmed down, and blew a some chunks a few times, they have been groggy and sleeping all night. We tried to spend some time with them, but they could barely stagger down the hall, after a few breaks, and then fall asaleep the second they hit our laps. They look so sad and pitiful, but suposedly they will be perking up within two days, and we can then take off the bandages. We had to get them pellet cat litter, so it stays out of their wounds when they dig for the first two weeks. We decided to reward them a little bit from their long day, so Max got a new red collar with a bell on it. Hopefully one day he is going to feel awake enough that we can see how well it works. Here are a few shots of them, but believe you me, these pics are a little deceiving, they are much more pitiful than they look. :P

How to Get a Better Response When Asking for Time Off

I sent this to my boss this week. I have also tried a "pirate talk", and "olde English".... it is a great way to get what you want, I just wanted to spice up my boss's day as she sat in meetings.

10 Random, Yet Awesome Feelings

Going in the bathroom at work, and the light is off (meaning I've got it all to myself)

Driving past a speed trap, and realizing that Im going the speed limit

Getting in the car, and the station is doing an awesome “blast from the past” song

Finding a rebate check in the mail that I forgot about

Waking up and realizing that it is Saturday, so I can go back to sleep

Max and Willee laying on my chest, without attacking my hands, ears or face

Realizing a blockbuster that I forgot about just hit DVD

Checking my homework schedule, and realizing Im already done

Taking a swing at the golf ball, and hitting it just right

Sitting down in front of ESPN after a good workout

If you notice, some of my awesome feelings come from doing something good, like exercising, but the majority of them come from me forgetting awesome stuff, such is the life and times of an absent minded person. I blame you for that gift, mother.

We had a good time at the Zoo this last Saturday. I went with Sagerville. Gracie D kept on saying how she wanted to see the tigers, and she made a great choice, cause this bad boy is what we found. He was much more active than the last time we went.

This little monkey could sense that we were up to something. He did not take his eyes off of us the whole time. He climbed inside of a large tube, hanging from a tree. I tried to get some pictures of him in the tube, but he noticed me and covered his face, then when I did not leave, he scooted back into the back of the tube so I didn't have a shot. He was smarter than I gave him credit for.

Landon was having a great time looking at all the animals, and playing on the statues around the park. As you can see, it all caught up with him, and that is the look of a kid that got the most out of his zoo pass.

Lost in Suburbia

Kelly and I went for a walk tonight down by the golf course. We were looking for a good place to find some wildlife, and boy howdy did we. These two fellers were found wandering around behind the golf course. We followed the fox in the woods, and that led us to the deer, then when we went back to the path, we decided to go out on the golf course and take a look around. Low and behold two more little foxes were running around on the fairways. Hope you all enjoy my shots, they aren't super clear, but to be honest I wasn't planning on actually finding anything cool, so I wasn't completely prepared.

Our Trip

This last week Kelly and I spent some time up in Park City. We got to eat out in some nice restaurants, and swim in our hotel. I decided to climb a mountain while Kelly was busy with her conference. I took some pictures, which turned out to be way too bright, so I made a call to my photography guru advisor guy, and her got me back on track, so the next day I climbed BACK up the mountain to take more pics. They came out much, much better, so thank you much, Pablo!

I had a good time taking pictures of different flowers. I will get some more posted at a later time. I liked these ones the best, cause they look like fireworks.

The trip was really fun, and unfortunately we will not get the opportunity to do it very often. Maybe later this year, or not til next year, but I guess that's how it goes when you are "old" and "responsible".

Living on the Wild Side

We got in touch with nature just a bit this weekend. We had some gift cards to Target, so we bought ourselves a tent and some sleeping bags. We were getting them just to hold on to for a while, until we had the time to go camping, but those plans changed a little bit. We decided to go for a bike ride where we actually saw more wildlife than expected for a ride by the Jordan River. We saw emus, peacocks, llamas, chickens, pigs, goats, horses, squirrels, a deer, ducks and some quails. After being around so much wildlife, right here by our house, we figured why not just camp out here? So we set up our new tent in our living room, and had a great camp out right here at home.

Kelly was a real trooper. We rode for about 12 miles on our bikes, and right when we got back we set up the tent. She even let me take a picture of her before she could even get fixed up, but I don't think she was aware that I would be posting it anywhere ;)

My Time to Shine

There are a lot of terrible things going on in the world these days: raids on sects, murder suicides, Old dead beats ripping off older dead beats... There are even cheaters getting caught in professional sports! Now as I think about all of this, I decided something, (other than the fact that I think ALL of these poor souls need more religion) people can go crazy when they don't take a little time for themselves and do what they WANT to do. Don't worry Kelly, I am not on the verge of poisoning our dinner, or running into a building with a bomb strapped to me, however, I think we all go a little crazy in our own way. This brought me to the conclusion of what I am missing these days:

H-O-B-B-Y which stands for: Healthy Opportunity to Be By Yourself

I don't think that 'me time' really has to be only me. I think that I should find a hobby that involves those wonderful people that put up with me on a daily basis. For instance, I am considering drawing: so I could draw Mary Lou as she sews... that way we both can do our separate hobbies, yet we are spending time together. Here are some of my options with the pros and cons:

Drawing: I don’t have a lot of skill in this area, but I really enjoy a good doodle session.

Photography: I would love to document more of our lives through pictures, but the cost of getting started makes me a little weak in the knees. I don't want to do a half baked job, and get bad gear, that takes bad pictures, but I also don't want to put the family fortune (trust me, it is even smaller than you think) to get going.

Cooking: Mary Lou cooks a lot of amazing food. I don't :) So in order to do this hobby, I will need to convince her to eat my concoctions, good or bad. Plus this could be a money muncher, without any benefits, if I end up making too much inedible creations.

Reading: I enjoy books, but I feel like I am taken out of this world and placed into this fantasy world... all by myself... It really isn't a hobby that I can enjoy with my familee, unless we started a book club, but then I am forcing this hobby.

Writing: I enjoy rhyming things, but I am terrible at record keeping. As much fun as it seems, I think I will stick to random posts on my blog before I try to tame this beast.

Sports: Golf is so much fun. Golf is so much money. My body needs to be in better condition than it is though. We only get one of them, and mine could really stand to shed a few LB's... so exercise needs to be in there somewhere, and I am lucky to have someone like Mary Lou who is willing to work out with me, so that is one hobby we can do together.

So anyway, that is a work in progress. May we all find ways stay fit: physically, mentally and spiritually. My goal is to find ways to do this, and hopefully with my sweetums nearby doing her thing... and maybe I'll even involve our little rascals (max 'n willee) too, if they don't rip up my skin and bite my ears off in the process.

So I am new to the world of Blogging, but we will give it a shot! I am terrible at journals, and I am terrible at emailing (as some of you that don't live too close to me may have realized) but maybe this 'new and improved' way of documenting will work out for me.

My life has been changed (for the better) quite drastically as of late. It wasn't so long ago that I was sitting in Mom and Dad's basement, wondering what in the world I was going to do with my life, and wondering if things would ever begin to progress. Next thing I know, I am married with 3 "kids", have my own place, and a new purpose! It is a good feeling, I don't know that it was a shock to me, my life has always kind of worked its way out on a rapid pace, but I really haven't had a ton of time to sit back and appreciate all that I have been given as of late.

For those of you that don't know about my kids, I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how. They are as follows:

Scabbers (dwarf hamster) who came during my English Harry Potter phase (I am in the process of starting the series all over again in Spanish), that I just finished. And might I add that it is much nicer to jump on the band wagon after all the dust has cleared, because I was able to read all 7 books without the hassle of sitting around and waiting for the next one to come out.

Max and Willee (black and orange/cream tabby kittens) who are a RIOT. I never thought of myself as a cat person, but these guys are great. They are only 2 months old, so they love to play, and sometimes we have to discipline them, but for the most part we have good times. They both are obsessed with biting my earlobes, and Max loves to ride around on my shoulder like a pirate's parrot. Willee is a mama's boy (he likes to curl up on Kelly), but he also loves a good wrestle with me and Max.
